CONNECTIONS SERIES
This piece forms part of the “Connections Series” – there were two paintings that came out of one particular experience. We were traveling through the Karoo and stopped in a very dry, isolated area where there was only one water point. There were two little Karoo boys collecting water in bottles. Because it was the single water point, one small brass tap connected to a pipeline, there were all sorts of animals hanging around waiting for the same thing. Both boys had great personalities. In this piece I decided to include two exotic parrots with the young man immediately prompting the question – what is a young Karoo boy doing with two exotic white parrots worth thousands of rands? How did he acquire them and what is he doing with them? It is a positive message – all can aspire to greatness if we put our minds to it. This young boy, although living in this area, depending on the opportunity and what he made of himself, could aspire to something great and would acquire valuable things to offer.
