When we lived on the lake in Noordhoek, Cape Town, there was a little pier going out into the water on our property. Often we would walk out onto our lawn and there would be geese and ducks sunning themselves on the deck with pigeons. It was kind of bizarre to see these birds sitting there together. In some of the paintings in this series, I deliberately include say an exotic parrot sitting with a common or feral pigeon. They would never normally be together, but suddenly they are now in my painting for the purpose of drawing attention to them.
