Charismatic animals like elephant and lion are always fantastic subjects. This one is a good looking, rugged, ragged looking lion who provided the perfect portrait opportunity. He was sitting there moving his head around with his mane blowing in the wind. Although these pieces ended up as a diptych, I could very easily have painted a triptych.
